American heavy rock band created by Brian Warner (AKA Marilyn Manson) and Scott Putesky. Manson has a controversial stage persona which has led to him being portrayed in the media as a bad influence on children. The group's first hit album was Smells Like Children in 1995 followed by 1996's 'Antichrist Superstar'. In 1999 they were linked to the media furore over violent music following the Columbine High School Killings. The band responded with the 2000 release of their best selling album 'Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death)' much of which was written in response to the massacre and which sold over 9 million copies. The band continue to record and perform.
