Nirvana

Nirvana was an American rock band of the Nineties, who spearheaded and popularised the grunge movement. Led by their charismatic frontman Kurt Cobain, they had a short run of fame, but their influence is still felt in popular music. It was the band's second album "Nevermind" that catapulted them into the mainstream, with the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" becoming an anthem for disaffected teens the world over. Cobain himself was never comfortable with the adulation heaped on him and his band, and committed suicide in April 1994. Nirvana have now sold over 25 million albums in the US, and over 50 million worldwide.
