The Pretenders are an American rock band formed in 1978. Originally consisting of Chrissie Hynde, James Honeyman-Scott, Pete Farndon, and Martin Chambers, the band has been through numerous changes in personnel, and Chrissie Hynde is the only continual member. Releasing their first album "Pretenders" to critical and commercial success in 1980, the band instantly made their mark on the rock scene of the time. Although there have only been nine albums in the time since their incredible debut album, they have achieved a prominence and influence far beyond their contemparies. Chrissie Hydne has become a female rock icon, and her distinctive look is copied the world over. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, The Pretenders are still going strong.
