American Southern rock band formed in 1964. The band, fronted by Ronnie Van Zant, reached their peak in the early 1970s with hits such as 'Freebird' and 'Sweet Home Alabama. In 1977 tragedy struck when the band were involved in a plane crash which killed Ronnie and two other members of the band. The band reformed in 1987 under the leadership of Johnny Van Zant and continue to record and perform today. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
